We often find ourselves unable to switch off the internal dialogue that runs through our heads, feeling like we are not in control of our thoughts or of having an untroubled mind. It really can feel like a never-ending battle to quiet our mind and relax. Luckily, it is possible to attain complete peace of mind once we start practicing mindfulness.

The mind is naturally intense and intrusive so it is important to be aware of this and create a space between you and your mind. Then, you can discover the high state of consciousness.

Practice the following ways to quickly relax your mind and achieve mindfulness.

One-Moment Meditation

Do you know it can just take a moment to meditate to relax your mind, relieve your stress and find peace? Here is how. Just get seated comfortably wherever you are. Then close your eyes and focus on your breathing. Silently focus on your breaths and control your breath for 1 minute to create a calmer state of mind.

One-Moment Meditation is a great way to quickly shift your state of mind and it shows that you can get mental clarity and inner peace within a moment.

This animated video clip below describes how to meditate in a moment based on Martin’s Boroson’s book, ‘One-moment Meditation’.

Triangle Breathing Technique

Triangle Breathing is a great way to relax. Visualize a triangle and as you inhale, count to 3 and imagine the first side of it. When you exhale, count to 6 and create an image of the other two sides. Continue doing this until you find yourself becoming calmer and more relaxed.

Listen to the Song ‘Weightless’

I have been trying to find the best soothing music, and Google gave me a lot of YouTube recommendations. However, one song caught my attention because it was produced as a relaxation track. It is called 'Weightless' and it is 8 minutes long. But trust me, it is the most calming 8 minutes of your life.

Test the theory by yourself. Here is the song.

The British Academy of Sound Therapy carried out a study that revealed awesome results such as reduced blood pressure, heart rate and decreased stress hormone. Apparently, this song can be more calming than getting a massage, going for a walk or drinking tea.

Count Backward

Start counting backwards when you feel uneasy, agitated or stressed. You can start counting from 10-1. Focus on your breathing and take deep breaths in between. Counting backwards is a great way to keep your mind focused, thus removing it from anxious thoughts. Not only that, but the extra oxygen intake helps reduce your stress levels.

Brush Your Hair

This might sound far-fetched to some. But brushing your hair can actually help you feel calm and get more relaxed. As you brush your hair and pass over the scalp, this stimulates nerve endings and can provide a calming massage that helps with relaxation. Give it a try.

Take a Peek Outside

I have done this a few times and it helps a lot to relax my mind. Just look outside, observe the weather. Be it sunny, rainy or gloomy, just embrace it. At night, look at the darkness, keep staring at the stars and the moon. Take a breath of the air. Feel it all and it will bring you down to the earth, making you feel calmer.

Write Your Thoughts

Write everything you are feeling. Do not hold back. Be it positive or negative thoughts. Write it all. It's a way to process your emotions, reflect on what's bothering you and make sense of it all. It can also help to clear your mind, allowing you to gain clarity and take control of your thoughts. So give it a try. See how it helps you find peace of mind.

Close Your Eyes

Simply close your eyes to relax. Rub your hands together to generate warmth. Keep your eyes shut, and hold your hands at a slight distance from the face while feeling the heat. Let this sensation of warmness linger for a few minutes.

Whenever you're feeling overwhelmed, you can use the right mind calming technique for your situation to help relax. Hope you have more serene and peaceful days ahead!
